WELCOME TO THE NEW ERA OF ULTRA COMPACT DIGITAL PIANOS

The first Privia digital piano—the PX-100—was unveiled exactly 15 years ago and changed the digital piano market for good. Offering "the perfect balance of sound, design and playing experience", this instrument revolutionised people's expectations of portable digital pianos. Since then, the Privia series has become synonymous with high-quality, compact digital pianos. To mark the 15th anniversary of the series, CASIO is launching two new outstanding Privia models — the PX-S1000 and PX-S3000: the world's most compact portable digital pianos* with hammer action and 88 keys.

DESIGN

Stylish design
The unique design of the new PX-S models works seamlessly with virtually any room, any furniture arrangement and any ambience. The especially slim body and the polished touch panel on the PX-S1000 and PX-S3000 models impress with their luxurious, high-quality look. The ability to operate the piano via touch sensors (thus allowing bulky operating elements to be omitted) is another feature that contributes to the purist look of the new CASIO PX-S models.

SOUND

Crystal-clear sound
The speaker system delivers crystal-clear sound for both the player and the listeners, regardless of whether the CASIO PX-S digital piano is set up on a table, against a wall or in an open performance space. The speakers have been subtly integrated above the keyboard and on the back of the instrument, and two headphone jacks also enable silent practice.

TOUCH

Authentic playing experience
The digital pianos in the CASIO PX-S series don't just look great, they also deliver an outstanding playing experience. The newly developed Smart Scaled Hammer Action Keyboard offers pianists the authentic and uncompromising touch of an acoustic piano. The unique characteristics of the 88 keys on a piano have been faithfully recreated thanks to the key scaling system developed especially by Casio.

Innovative compact design with no compromises

Akira Ikeda (Product Planning Director) and Masaru Jinde (Product Design Director) talk about developing the PX-S Digital Piano models.

How did you come up with the idea of the world's most compact digital piano*?

IKEDA:
Since the first Privia model came out 15 years ago, Casio has consistently taken new approaches to the market for compact digital pianos. Before starting development of the new Privia models, we carried out a worldwide survey among portable digital pianos users and found that many people are not content with the size of instruments currently on the market. As a result, we decided on a compact design, the likes of which have never been seen before.

JINDE:
It was a great challenge but our team was highly motivated. We wanted to make the instrument as small as possible and surpass the impact that the first Privia digital piano had on the market.

IKEDA:
At first, we were concerned that an even more compact size might have a negative impact on the keyboard and loudspeaker performance. Compromising the quality of the sound or keyboard was not an option. We tried out new things all the time and were thus able to increase the size of the hammers and develop key-off response technology. This provides users with an authentic piano touch, even though the keyboard depth is twenty percent less than its predecessor.

How did the design of the PX-S digital piano models evolve?

JINDE:
Our design team also had an idea which we had already considered for a previous model and which was now perfect for our new concept.

IKEDA:
The idea was to control the digital piano through touch sensors.

JINDE:
We'd heard from piano players that haptic control elements affected their concentration while playing. We decided that touch sensor technology is the best approach to increase players' concentration.

IKEDA:
The new Privia digital piano is available in black or white. In the black model, you don't even notice that the touch sensor control elements exist when the piano is not being used. The instrument embodies minimalist beauty in its pure form.

What other special features were take into account in the development of PX-S models?

JINDE:
Obviously, not only the compact size was a priority during development.

IKEDA:
The development of the keyboard is always the most important. It's the basis of our product development. However, we also wanted users to love the sound quality. The sound of the instrument is particularly rich and detailed. We have used loudspeakers which are also able to reproduce this power of expression.

JINDE:
Once we reached this high level of innovation, our expectations for further developments have increased even more, as you would expect. We dream of developing a digital piano which consists of the keyboard itself only.
